You set up a batch validation task by completing the steps that are presented to you by the Batch validation wizard. The choices you make control how the program will process the input file and the format and contents of the output file(s).
To set up and start a batch validation task:
Make the Datasheet the active view of your project.
Make sure Great Britain (GBR) is selected as locale for your mailing list.
The active locale is displayed in the status bar at the bottom of the window. To select Great Britain, double-click the icon showing a globe or flag at the right-hand side of the status bar.
TIP: If the locale that is selected is not the one you usually want to use, you can set the default locale in the Options window. To do so, click the File tab and then Options from the menu that appears and again Options on the right hand side. In the window, select Datasheet and select the default country.
Click Batch Validation in the Address Validation group on the Postal tab.
The Batch validation wizard starts.
The Batch validation wizard provides step-by step online instructions for defining the settings of a validation job, and ensures that you enter your information correctly. Follow the online instructions to define the settings you want for your mailing list. The wizard will take you through the following steps:
If you are not sure what choices to make, you can get more information by clicking the ? on the title bar of the window or by pressing F1.
When you have completed all steps of the wizard as described above and click Start on the Output field options page of the wizard, the program begins processing your mailing list.
During the processing of your list, a progress dialog is displayed, which informs you about the progress being made and the results.
The Validation results window marks the end of the batch validation task. This window displays a summary of the results for the task. When you click Finish the Batch validation window closes.
If the validated records have been written to a new file, the program will prompt you if you want to connect to that new file. When you select Yes, the new file will be linked and the contents of that file will be displayed.
You can review the corrections that have been made to the file or work on the invalid addresses that need your attention. The Validation Status code gives you more detailed information about the status of each record. For more information about the meaning of the used codes see Validation status codes.
To select one of the groups, you can set the Validation Filter, which will filter out all other records, so that only the specified group is active on the screen (see Setting a validation filter ). For more information on correcting individual addresses see Interactive validation.
