Address validation works on the address data in your database. Because the program cannot automatically identify what type of data is in each field of a mailing list, you need to map the fields containing relevant information for the validation process to the actual postal field types.
The column on the left side of the list box displays the relevant postal field types. In the column on the right side you can select the data field from the linked database containing that information.
Most field types speak for themselves. The following might need some explanation:
RMS4CC. The RMS4CC field is a field that can be used to save the complete data for the 4 State customer code, containing the postcode and the Delivery Point Suffix (DPS).
Country. Address validation uses the field mapped to Country to differentiate between Inland and International addresses. The program assumes an address to be in the UK when the value in this column is equal to the value you have specified for the United Kingdom in the Country Codes dialog. All records containing another value will be treated as International addresses according to the codes you have given them.
If you want to edit or review the country codes now, click Countries at the bottom of the list displaying the field mapping. For more information see Country codes.
NOTE: You do not have to specify a country column if your database only contains addresses in your own country. By default validation treats all addresses as inland addresses.
Status. Address validation needs a data field in each record where it can save the result of the validation and correction process.
