You define the dimensions and weight of the mail items on the Item size and weight page of the Presort Wizard. Based on these parameter FlexMail will determine the Royal Mail bulk mail products and options available for this mailing.
These data are also the basis for the calculation of the costs of a mailing as displayed on the project summary after presorting a project. Besides for calculating the costs, the weight is used in the sortation process to determine the number of items to put in a bundle, bag, or tray.
Specify the width and height of the mail piece by doing one of the following:
Select a paper size from the Item size box.
- or -
Enter the width and height of the mail piece in the Width and Height boxes.
- or -
Click the Copy Designer Page Size button to copy the envelope sizes you specified in the Designer into the Width and Height edit boxes.
The item thickness and weight is based on the values you enter for a single item or on a sample you take. You enter the measurements in the sample measurements group of the page.
Make a sample package of a reasonable size, and bind it.
Count the number of pieces in the sample package. Enter this in the Number box.
Measure the package's thickness. Enter this in the Thickness box.
Weigh the package. Enter this in the Weight box.
The weight will be used during the sortation process to control the minimum and maximum weights of bundles and containers (bundles or bags). The item weight is also required for calculating the cost of the mailing.
Select Mixed weight if your mailing contains mail pieces of different weights. If your mailing is a mixed weight mailing, the weight specified is the default weight for items for which no weight is specified in the database.
