The Project Summary (called Computer Planning Report by Royal Mail) summarizes the mailing details. The summary generated depends on the presort settings made.
Reports may contain all or part of the following information:
Header data, consisting of the Name of the company, mailing date and Accepting Office.
Presort parameters, covering the service required, selection size and item weight.
Presortation statistics, showing a summary of the number of records processed, correct postcodes and results of post town matching.
Postcode statistics, giving a summary of the records processed and the results of the postcode evaluation performed by FlexMail. This figure also covers the address accuracy that has been calculated. The postcode statistics therefor signify whether the mailing has sufficient postcode and address quality to receive the discounts.
NOTE: The reliability of this figure largely depends upon the settings you have made in the Presort Wizard about postcode and address checking in the Postcode and address accuracy page of the wizard (see Postcode and address accuracy).
Penetration statistics (Walksort only), giving a summary of the Walksort mailing penetration. This item replaces the Postcode statistics.
DPS statistics (Barcoded mailings only), listing the percentage match to Delivery Point Suffix and the percentage allocated to 'default DPS'.
Sortation statistics, showing a summary of the results of the sortation process in number of selections made, items and bags for both Direct and Residue selections.
Mixed weight statistics (mixed weight mailings only), giving additional information needed for mixed weight mailings.
To ensure that the correct average weight is used in the cost calculation, all items below 60g are treated as 60g and all items above 60g are calculated on their actual weight.
The project summary therefore includes information on the actual weight, the number of items, the total weight and the assumed weight for each weight in a mixed weight mailing.
Costs and discounts, giving a calculation of the costs of the mailing, including the discounts and costs for non-sorted items.
The sorted items are calculated based on the straight-line pricing. The costs are discounted from a base which differs slightly from the public tariff rates. For items weighing 60g or more, 'straight-line pricing' replaces the broad public tariff weight bands. Straight-line pricing ensures you pay for the exact weight of the mail you send, per gram.
There may be a small number of items which cannot be sorted. They have addresses which are without a correct postcode and cannot be matched on Post Town. They could also be items for overseas. These items are charged at the appropriate current tariff rate.
