Survivor Condition

When you have selected Keep conditionally as the de-duplication action, this option lets you set up a test to determine which record to keep. The test compares one field in each record and keeps the one that has the larger or smaller value, as you choose.

To specify a survivor condition:

  1. Select the field that you want to compare in the Field to test list box.

  2. In the Keep record with box select one of the following:

Note: The Highest/Lowest value test is interpreted in one of three ways, depending on the contents of the test field. The obvious interpretation is if both fields contain numbers. If Highest value was the test, the record with the larger number in the test field is saved. For example 334 is larger than 332. Dates are similar: earlier is smaller, later is larger. If the field contains text, the test becomes one of alphabetization. For example, "Delta" is larger than "Alpha" because it is further down the alphabet.

  3. Any test between fields may prove inconclusive. The In case of inconclusive comparison box lets you select the record to keep if the two test fields contain exactly the same data, ore both fields are blank.
