In general, indicia are markings on a mail piece showing that postage has been paid by the sender. The appearance varies from a simple graphic design or specific text in a box to information based indicia that contain barcodes combined with visually identifable characters and symbols. In these cases the (often 2-D) barcode contains such information as amount of postage, origin postcode, destination, mail class, weight, confirmation/tracking numbers. Some indicia have more information than others.
The program supports indicia for many countries. All indicia are country and, for those countries with multiple postal operators, operator specific.
To add an indicia to your design, click Indicia in the Insert group on the Designer tab. Click where you want to insert the indicia. The Indicia window will open were you can select the indicia you want and set any options.
You select the indicia you want be selecting the country from the Country list and then making your choices in the Group land Type lists.
In the Settings list you can set all available settings and options for the selected indicia. At the bottom of the list there is a description of each available option.
Some (information based) indicia require you to enter fixed and/or variable data that will be part of the indicia, either in readible characters or in the contens of a barcode. When they are based on a datasource, you can select the data you want from the list of available datasources for that setting or, if the data you need for your barcode is not in the list of datasources, you can create a datasource when you click the More button. For specific (postal) contents you can create a postal datasource with the contents you need in the program. For more information see Postal datasources.
The resizing and formatting options available are governed by the official specifications for the indicia. Depending on the indicia type, you can resize the indicia by dragging its corners. Indicia can also be rotated, but those containing a barcode can only be rotated in steps of 90 degrees.
Because of the specifications also formatting options are limited. To see what is available, make sure the indicia is selected and then make your settings on the Indicia tab.
